The hike may also be a snow shoe trip or may be a kayak trip, but it will not be of our travels. If you wish to see our travel pictures visit us at:

Every Camp site had its unique charms

but Chief Lake was one of the most memorable.

Day 3-1

It was at 10,400 feet and we reached it after a long day of climbing up to Silver Pass (10880feet).

Day 3-8

We were worried that the mules might not be able to make it through the snow.

Day 3-7

But they did, though not without sliding down the hill and crushing our cook stove. I never thought I would worry if the trail would be good enough for a mule.  The idea that  we would go places that a mule would refuse to go never occurred to me, but perhaps I do not appreciate the esthetics of the common mule.

Day 3-9

Our camp was set up

Day 3-17

and dinner was finished as the sun began to go down, lighting up the peaks,

Day 3-12

As the shadows began to creep across the lake

Day 3-13

a beautiful alpenglow lit up the peaks

Day 3-14

until evening set in.

Day 3-20

Then as the sun set in the west, we could seen the outlines of Banner and Ritter Peak four days hike in the distance.

Day 3-15
